"Background and Review of the RCDSO’s Guidelines for Infection Prevention and Control in the Dental Office".
Dr. Gardner will discuss the rationale and process for updating the Guidelines, as well as review the key principles and best practices described in this document.
Course Overview
The focus of this course will be to provide up to date information on best practices in infection prevention and control and instruction on the practical application of those practices in dental offices. Our dental team has spent years learning from the best minds in the business to refine our Best Practices. This course will teach your dental team the background behind our Best Practices, we will demonstrate those Best Practices and we will give you the resources you need to implement and document them in your practice.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants will gain the practical knowledge to assess and implement appropriate Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
- Evaluate current procedures and policies and improve clinical Infection Control processes.
- Develop and organize an Infection Control Manual that clearly describes policies, procedures and practices for the dental office.
- List and define important terms in Infection Control.
- Understanding the importance of hand hygiene.
- Explain the appropriate use and purpose of each of the Personal Protective Equipment options.
- List the basic barrier techniques and the rational for each.
- Determine the appropriate methods to be used for sterilization, disinfection, cleaning and understanding the rational for each.
- Understanding the importance of Infection Prevention and Control guidelines in Implantology
- Understanding the importance of monitoring of sterilization.
- Develop and implement an exposure management protocol.
- Identify areas of cross contamination and how to reduce the incidence of it.
- Identifying environmental Infection Control protocols.
- Implementing Infection Control in the dental laboratory.
- Understand the proper disposal of various types of waste generated.
- Understand the importance of WHMIS and organize a MSDS binder.
