The course content will include reviews of:
- the biological effects of ionizing radiation and radiation dosimetryn
- patient selection criteria and the radiographic examination

Legislative Update: When will dentists be able to purchase, install and use small field-of-view cbCT?
The Standard of Practice was passed by RCDSO on April 18, 2011. In late May, 2011 the government of Ontario also passed this standard which essentially removed the government’s moratorium that was in place. The Standard requires that a dentist who wishes to have a small field of view cbCT have a Facility Permit from RCDSO. The Council of RCDSO must now pass a proposed by-law that outlines the Facility Permit and the fee that will be charged for it and then circulate this proposed bylaw to all of its members for comment. 60 days must be allowed for the circulation period. Once the Council has received the input of the profession a final bylaw will be presented to Council and once the bylaw is passed the Facility Permit applications can be made to RCDSO by dentists who have met the educational requirements of the Standard of Practice-Dental CT Scanners.
The University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry appreciates the unrestricted educational grant provided by Patterson Dental Canada, Carestream Health/Kodak Dental Systems, Henry Schein, Instrumentarium, Sinclair Dental, Vatech, Planmeca and J. Morita.
