Infection Control for Dental Offices: A Guide to
Best Practices for All Oral Health Care Professionals

This is an important one-day lecture and hands-on course for the entire dental team.

Participants in this course will receive a certificate from the University of Toronto indicating they have completed a Faculty of Dentistry program in infection control and will receive a binder that includes all necessary forms for easy documentation that best practices have been followed.

Course Overview

The focus of this course will be to provide up to date information on best practices in infection control and instruction on the practical application of those practices in dental offices.

Our dental team has spent years learning from the best minds in the business to refine our Best Practices. This course will teach your dental team the background behind our Best Practices, we will demonstrate those Best Practices and we will give you the resources you need to implement and document them in your practice.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants will gain the practical knowledge to implement Infection Control Practices that pass inspection.

  1. Evaluate current procedures and policies and improve clinical Infection Control processes.
  2. Develop and organize an Infection Control Manual that clearly describes policies, procedures and practices in accordance with the RCDSO Guidelines.
  3. List and define important terms in Infection Control.
  4. Understanding the importance of hand hygiene.
  5. Explain the appropriate use and purpose of each of the Personal Protective Equipment options.
  6. List the basic barrier techniques and the rational for each.
  7. Determine the appropriate methods to be used for sterilization, disinfection, cleaning and understanding the rational for each.
  8. Understanding the importance of sterilization, monitoring and Quality Assurance.
  9. Develop and implement an exposure management protocol.
  10. Identify areas of cross contamination and how to reduce the incidence of it.
  11. Identifying environmental Infection Control protocols.
  12. Implementing Infection Control in the dental laboratory.
  13. Understand the proper disposal of various types of waste generated.
  14. Understand the importance of WHMIS and organize a MSDS binder.

  2. Immunization
  3. Patient Screening
  4. Hand Hygiene
  5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  6. Guidelines for Policy and Procedures in a dental health care setting.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Two weeks prior to course date – 100% refund. One week prior to course date – 50% refund. There is no refund for cancellations after one week prior to course date.
