Course Outline
In this lecture, clinicians will acquire a basic understanding of the nature of fear, anxiety and phobias, so as to be better able to relate to the clinical presentations of their patients. An understanding of the applications of various treatment modalities and the use of hypnosis will be presented. At day’s end the clinician will know when to refer to mental health professionals for additional support, when to work around the patient’s problems and how to manage their own stress level when interacting with these patients.

Biography
Dr. Gabor Filo graduated from UofT in 1984. Since then he has been an ardent and passionate proponent of dental hypnosis. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hypnosis in Dentistry. Over the years, he has belonged to the major hypnosis societies, and participated as faculty both locally and internationally. His textured professional career includes solo and group practice, hospital dentistry and an emphasis on the non-pharmacological treatment of dental anxiety and phobia. To aide the latter, he is an early adopter of the hard and soft tissue laser in clinical practice.
He has extensive dental association experience as a Past President of the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry and through various positions at the Ontario Dental Association. Currently, he is a member of the Board of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis – Ontario Division and he had served 3 terms on the Executive Committee as the dentist-at-large for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
