Dr. Shimon Friedman
Course Outline
Many specific clinical conditions are commonly considered as untreatable by way of conventional endodontic treatment. These conditions include, among others: extensive coronal breakdown, root canal obstruction by sharp curvature, calcification or broken instrument, extreme anatomic aberrations, perforating root resorption, probing depth to the apex, iatrogenic perforation, horizontal and vertical root fractures, and persistent disease after previous endodontic treatment.
Teeth affected by these conditions are usually treated surgically or extracted. However, thanks to better understanding of endodontic disease and improved instruments, materials and techniques, many of these teeth can be treated non-surgically and retained in function.
Such treatment may greatly benefit patients, particularly when replacement with prosthetic devices is not an option. Being able to treat these “untreatable” conditions is what defines advanced endodontics. During this lecture, treatment of conditions that are commonly considered “untreatable” will be demonstrated with typical clinical examples.
